Sabbath Day

communion cup and bread“If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath and from doing as you please on my holy day,

if you call the Sabbath delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable,

and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words

….then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” The mouth of the Lord has spoken. (Isaiah 58: 13,14)

A Challenge

I am setting forth a challenge today.  Keep the Sabbath day holy and honorable.  When a person has to work on Sunday, this is not considered doing as you please.  God will know your heart.  As we have read this scripture, I must say what a revelation this brings. This came to me during the time I was teaching 5th grade, raising an active toddler and taking care of our home.  Sunday always seemed the day I did laundry and tidied up the house before Monday.  I do not remember how I was drawn to this scripture, my active toddler is almost 15 years old.

Holy Spirit’s Nudge

I do recall the heavy feeling, the conviction, I kept having several weeks in a row.  Have you noticed when we try to ignore these Holy Spirit nudges, a littler stronger situation will occur?  The day my knob broke off my washer for no apparent reason got my attention.  God, OK! This is your day and not mine.  During this time adjustments were made to do laundry and housework during the week later in the evening.  Saturday became my day to focus on all loose ends.  Sunday would be our day for church and rest.  This has been the best decision to listen to the Lord.  I believe many blessings relating to our home come from obeying this scripture.

God’s Provision

When the mouth of the Lord speaks, it’s in our best interest to listen.  We will have joy! The joy of the Lord is our strength the Bible tells us.  By keeping Sunday holy, God gives us strength! This alone is powerful! However, this is not all.  We are going to ride on the heights of the land and feast on the inheritance of our father, Jacob. This is incredible! This tells me I am going to reap the best of things and not settle for less. This is for you too!

The word of God is powerful to all who believe! This is our loving Father teaching us as we teach our own children. If we will do this, He will do what He says.  It is truly this simple.

Be encouraged!
