Obey: The 10 Commandments

Obey: The Importance of the 10 Commandments

“Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.” (John 14:21)

Obey

Our key word today is obey. This scripture is powerful. If we truly love Jesus, we are going to obey his commands. Scripture is full of commands and promises. For instance, in 1 John 5:3, this is love for God: to obey his commands, his commands are not burdensome. No, they are not burdensome. The greatest myth is you will stop having fun. For those who know me personally, know we have fun! The added bonus, you will remember the fun you experienced!

the 10 Commandments

Early on during Moses’s era, God called Moses up to Mount Sinai to scribe the 10 commandments. They are as important today as they were then. However, they have been removed from our public schools with a movement to remove from all public facilities. Honestly, how many Christians can recall all 10 commandments? We seriously need to be focused on reclaiming the importance of the 10 commandments.

They are:

  1. You shall have no other gods before me.
  2. You shall not make unto thee any graven image-no idols.
  3. Thou shall not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.
  4. Remember the Sabbath, keep this Holy.
  5. Honor thy father and mother, so that you may have a long life.
  6. Thou shall not kill.
  7. Thou shall not commit adultery.
  8. Thou shall not steal.
  9. Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.
  10. Thou shall not covet.

Making a conscious decision

Let’s make a conscious decision to bring the 10 commandments back into our homes. We need to instill these into our children as we remember to live by them ourselves. The benefits would be a long life, stay out of prison, keep our marriage together, have better relations with our neighbors and enjoy what we have.  AMAZING! Why would we not want these benefits? Imagine with me for a moment, 1 child telling another, 1 adult telling another, then another and another……one spark can burn an entire wilderness. Are you with me? Our country needs us to start this fire.
