Discernment: Good Vs. Bad Overflow

Discernment: Good Vs. Bad OverflowThe good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. (Matthew 12: 35 NIV)

Discernment

Out of overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. We will give an account on the day of judgement for every careless word we have spoken. Talk about the Word of God sharper than a double edged sword. Believe me, the realization of being held accountable for every careless word cuts deep. The Holy Spirit is gentle in His nudge to convict, not condemn. Satan waves the flag of condemnation. Discernment helps recognize conviction as the Holy Spirit’s warning signals to remove ourselves from potential sin or repent if we ignored warning.

Righteousness

Biblical truths are not meant to be tolerant of sin. They are to sharpen and refine us to become examples of Christ to a fallen world. We make personal decisions to follow Christ. When this decision solidifies we thirst and hunger after righteousness. Scripture is the tool God uses to teach us the path to righteousness.

Knowledge

In the process of removing bad-unhealthy behaviors and habits, we replace with good. You may wonder…what defines good? As your Word knowledge increases, a strong awareness arrives to discern between good and evil. I am serious what I fill my mind with. This includes what I read, watch on T.V., listen to on radio, and conversations I take part in, are a few examples. Also, what I place in my mouth to eat and drink. These are all areas the Holy Spirit has worked with me. If you feel the Holy Spirit’s nudge in any of these areas, please give serious thought how to respond. Many times our flesh screams, “Don’t listen!”  We have to become determined to live for Christ and be filled with good to overflow.

Vision sharpens

As we change, our vision sharpens to what flows out of others. This is another area I guard myself. I am careful who I have speak into my life and what type of leadership I sit under. More of God’s Word in us, the stronger our discernment. We may live in this world, once we connect with Jesus, we are no longer part of this world. We become a child of the Most High King.

Forward Friday!

It’s Forward Friday! Let’s move forward this weekend with thoughts on discernment. Have you felt the Holy Spirit’s nudge recently? If it has been awhile, move closer to Jesus. Spend time in prayer, read your Bible, and sing your favorite hymn or worship song. He longs to spend time with His children. Everything good will come from time spent with Jesus.

Be encouraged!
