Good Day? Grasping Truth/Moving Forward

Good Day? Grasping Truth/Moving ForwardFor I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do- this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. (Romans 7:18b-20 NIV)

Moving Forward

Forward Friday! If we can grasp this truth, we’ll move forward so fast, making our heads spin. Ever feel like Alexander having the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day? This is exactly how I felt last night. Therefore, concluding it is no longer I with this issue of food, it is the sin living in me. Where’s this sin? It’s lack of self-control, overeating- yes, called gluttony. Self- control is like center command- like the counter part to temptation. We either go with self-control or follow through with temptations…be it food, alcohol/drugs, sexual tendencies, carless words, and the list goes on and on.

Overcome

What is one thing you keep trying to overcome? This is something different for everyone- yet, mine is food. Not the excessive large portions- the forgetting that I’ve already had one sweet allowance for the day. Oh- I already had the extra bread for the day. Then the reward for eating a healthy meal- now that’s the big chocolate brownie. No- I have been wanting this big chocolate brownie from a local store in our downtown area. My daughter let me have a few bits of her brownie one day and ever since…I’m like- I want one of those brownies. Good thing there is road construction downtown. This is insane- and I know it is. As with any addictive tendency, stopping before ever starting is a very good thing to do. Yet, this will take not only self control- it will take God’s power working within us to help recharter our brain, taking captive all contrary thoughts and get control of situation causing sin in our lives.

Good – Evil

Paul nailed this in Romans. When we want to do good- evil is always right there with us. The enemy wages war on our minds, attempting to make us prisoners to sin. The devil’s goal is to make us unproductive for God’s kingdom. Studying scripture builds Word knowledge in us, which is the sword of the Spirit in God’s armor. We need victory over sin- the devil tries so hard to trap us.

Ready?

For me- I never want to feel like Alexander.  I know how this feels- I do not want any of you to feel like this- its a feeling of failure. Yet, with God’s help we can win today and for the rest of our lives. The key is taking back control of our minds, exerting self- control with every step of our day. Ready to move forward? Let’s go!
