Sound Doctrine: Warnings Against Myths

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from truth and turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3,4 NIV)

Warnings

Momma said there would be days like this- Wait! This was Jesus and His disciples, everything Jesus knew, He heard from His Father- all sound doctrine. God is supreme and all-knowing. He knows the time and day when this earth as we know will end, we do not. We’re provided with warnings in books such as 2 Timothy. They are:

• People will be lovers of themselves
• Lovers of money
• Boastful
• Proud
• Abusive
• Disobedient to their parents
• Ungrateful
• Unholy
• Without love
• Unforgiving
• Slanderous
• And…the list continues in 2 Timothy 3

Sound Doctrine

Are we seeing this time when men and women no longer adhere to sound doctrine? My husband shared early in our marriage…birds of feathers flock together. Basically, those who want to justify sin, weakening stance for holiness will eventually turn majority to their thinking or leave and group together elsewhere. This has divided denominations exchanging sound doctrine for myths- from false teaching. A false teacher opposes truth in the Bible. Therefore, opposite of truth is false.

Deflect

In order to trick individuals into false doctrine…false teachers like the devil, sprinkle enough truth into false statements. As truth is revealed, agents of falsehood takes truth and deflects blame on the innocent- making people believe the innocent guilty instead of them. The false news movement is a perfect example. Even as truth is revealed, people still trust media proven wrong. In the end, these people are believing their information true, trying to engage others into false information. It’s really classic deception. Mark my word- all avenues of information will eventually get to this point- not just the news.

Avoid Being Fooled…

Dear friends, we have to have to remain alert and watchful. Once again, imperative to know scripture and discern between truth vs false, right vs. wrong. As estranged as the world becomes to scriptural foundation…the world God created will be judged and we’ll be held accountable down to every careless word we’ve spoken. Choosing to live for Christ now…gives opportunity to living life to the fullest, learning to overcome the devil’s attempt to steal, kill, and destroy. Let’s always keep sound doctrine a priority and eyes on truth, avoiding being fooled with myths.
