Surrender…Willing to Remove Contingents

Surrender...Willing to Remove ContingentsYour word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105 ESV)

Melody flowing…

He took my sins away, He took my sins away, and now I’m singing every day. While praying how God wants to encourage today, this melody kept flowing through my mind. I love my home church. Once back home after college, I never intended leaving. I would still be there today, if I had not surrendered my entire being to be Christ’s servant. Although, when making this deal with God, I should have added contingents. Then again…that would not have been a total surrender. If wanting to be in God’s Will, we must have a total surrender.

Surrender

Yes, maybe some songs seemed redundant, and sermons too long. Sermon note taking began long ago with my very first pastor I remember, Brother Everett Lee, incase anyone may have crossed paths with him or his family. During this season, we were taught to serve and love our elderly. A gift now more for my heart, hoping to carry on in my children. The gift of healing, as my hands were prayed over to remove warts- all gone, never returned. The piano played during youth, singing, Victory in Jesus. These are all matters of the heart. Likely where I heard for the first time- garbage in, garbage out. I asked my young family members- they’ve never heard this before. What’s poured into our hearts and minds, will be what’s reproduced back out. If ever wanting to make life changes, what’s taken in has to change. Surrender…

A What?

When David and I were making wedding plans, our pastor at the time, asked for suggestions for a wedding present. Things we do and say, is directed by The Holy Spirit more than we realize. My response, “A lamp.”  This lamp from our pastor has always meant the world to me…now attached with spiritual understanding. God’s Word is a lamp to our feet, and a light to our path. This is one of my favorite Bible verses. When seeking Jesus, we realize the depth we need Him in our life. Beginning to read/study God’s Word is a step in the right road. The Bible remains same yesterday, today, and forevermore…God does not change, society changes.

Path

While pondering heart to heart- if no special church memories surface from childhood, there has never been a better time to start making new memories. This is what my family began doing several years ago with Thanksgiving. As special memories from church surface, same could be said for trips to my Grandma Blue’s home…every Thanksgiving. I cried leaving every time, wanting to stay. She lived in what I dubbed at the time- ‘a big city’ to my rural setting. Now I see…that was not my path to walk. God is so good! He’ll take our sins away, and allows His Word to guide our feet, lighting our path. This truly does allow us to keep singing every day.

Be encouraged!
