Pressing Forward, Forgetting What is Behind

Pressing forward, forgetting what is behind. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that which Jesus Christ took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:12-14)

Which path?

Where are you today considering the path to the prize? The world screams many different paths to many gods. The Bible informs only one path to God and this is through Jesus. We have too many voices in our society distracting, like clutter. Basically, we believe the Bible to be truth or we do not. If we believe the Bible to be truth, then we must accept the teaching within. If we accept Jesus, then we have to accept His Word, the Bible. We are not perfect, yet we have to keep pressing forward.

Forgetting what is behind

If anyone had a potentially haunting past, this would be Paul. He was Saul, highly educated, breathed murderous threats against those who followed Jesus. He even went to the high priest receiving official documents in case he found anyone ‘belonging to the way’ to take as prisoners. Were his motives any different than what we see today? Saul made a 180 degree turn. His encounter with the one-true God, turned him into the passionate man of Christ. He understood, we have to forget what is behind us and strain to look ahead. This is not easy for everyone. Satan loves to keep reminding you of past situations.

Pressing forward

Part of pressing forward is making a conscious decision to forget what is behind. When you ask God to forgive you of your sins, you are forgiven. God is for you and not against you. We are all a work in progress. All Christians must keep pressing forward. We must bind our strong voices together proclaiming the good news! The good news of Jesus Christ! To seek the prize heavenward in Jesus Christ for all who believe. We understand this to take to all who do not believe. Let’s not assume anything, yet let’s do everything God is calling us to do.

Be encouraged!
