If it(foundation) is burned up, he will suffer loss, he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. (1 Corinthians 3:14 NIV)
Materials
Materials matter. What kind are selected daily used for building on our foundation? If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay, or straw, his work will be shown for what it is…(1 Corinthians 3:12, 13). This entire chapter will make a great read today. We’re building daily, just may not have known.
Tested
I was led to these verses during exercise last week. Isn’t God good- to provide such amazing people on our path to help us be the best we can be. It’s wonderful to talk scripture with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. It’s not pleasing to think how many people will escape like through flames when their foundation is being tested. Fire will test each man’s work. Therefore, do we have to settle for wood, hay, or straw? No.
Foundation
We may start with little. God promises those faithful with little, can be trusted with much. There are several keys to building on this foundation to withstand fire. Say with tithing, God says to test him in this area. Thankfully, David and I took a Larry Burkett financial study while we were engaged. We learned best to tithe from gross. I would consider this key to be the structure built on our foundation. From our tithe, God saw we’ve been serious from the beginning. From here, we began to grow into greater responsibilities. As when much is given, mush is expected. If you decide this Sunday to start giving 10% of your gross income…you will see…we can never out give God. God’s giving is not limited to finances. He can bless in ways beyond our imagination.
Footing
Life is too stressful not to have fireproof footing. Even if materials do not survive fire tests, we will. Yet, why just survive when we can thrive? The alternative without Christ, only option is death. The Bible says no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. Every other effort will be futile.
Yielding
It’s Warrior Wednesday, always a day to dig deeper. Developing warriors to stand strong during days ahead. Choosing materials based on building with gold, silver, costly stones takes sacrificing our will, yielding to God’s will. Using keys to unlock knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. It’s a powerful choice to make!
