Resistance: Pressing Through, Eyes On Jesus

The Lord said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, for the Lord is about to pass by.” (1Kings 19:11 NIV)

Motivating Monday! Work intensifies, we press forward. Forces of resistance block necessary paths, weariness overtakes. Great victories one day, desire to run and hide next. Elijah battled same emotions. Are you facing resistance? Today’s blog will empower. Dear Jesus, soften hearts to understand, remove barriers to receive, in Jesus’s name, Amen.

Opinions

Elijah summoned 450 false prophets of Baal and 400 of Asherah, asking, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” The Lord is God proved true. No matter how long or how loud Baal’s prophets shouted, silence remained. Once Jezebel threatened death, Elijah ran.

Resistance

Resistance places a challenge: we keep eyes on Jesus, pressing forward or accept defeat and abandon situation. Individuals abandon callings, jobs, relationships, and marriages. All way too early. Once we break through resistance, victory will be much sweeter on the other side.

Response

God’s response to Elijah, a powerful lesson. “What are you doing here, Elijah?” After hearing Elijah’s response, God instructed him to stand on the mountain in the presence of the Lord, He is about to pass by. Elijah endured powerful wind and shattering rocks. Withstood an earthquake and then a fire. After the fire came a gentle whisper. Through God’s gentle whisper, Elijah received direction for next steps to take.

Courage

Elijah was directed to go back the way he came. He anointed Hazel king over Aram, Jehu over Israel, and Elisha to succeed him as prophet. These three individuals were placed to protect Elijah! WOW! Dear friends, whatever resistance you face today, God has a plan of deliverance. Yes, courage is necessary. Are we willing to withstand storms- to hear God’s gentle whisper? If so, God desires to prove Himself faithful, a deliverance plan will follow. Do we shout praises or fall on our knees and cry holy- Lord God, you are Holy.

Pressing Forward

Dear friends, keep pressing forward through resistance, eyes on Jesus. Stand in God’s presence waiting to hear His gentle whisper. He will- lean in and hear next steps to take. We are loved.
