Thanksgiving, an Attitude of the Heart

Thanksgiving being presented to God by a young man with a silhouette of a crossDo not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4: 6,7)

An attitude change

There are times when we find ourselves in a foul mood.  I hear that Amen! When this happens, we have to immediately stop.  It is up to us to turn our attitude around.  The culprit is anxiety.  We find ourselves anxious.  I find myself anxious in traffic, with deadlines, and with messes in the house.  Truthfully, the list is endless.  Visualize this with me…as a rush of emotion rages up in us, take your hands and act like you are pushing down.  We have the ability to control anxiety.

…with thanksgiving

We cancel out endless and replace with everything.  In everything…I have to stop for a moment….EV-ER-Y-THING! This is powerful! In all we do by prayer and petition make our request known to God with thanksgiving.  See satan likes to snatch our attitude of thanksgiving.  When he can steal our hearts of thanksgiving, he blocks our prayer and petitions.  Not only this, he steals our peace.  It is vital to have a heart of thanksgiving.  Be thankful.

Practice thanksgiving

We must practice having an attitude of thanksgiving. I know this will not be natural for all people. Life is tough.  Circumstances do not always flow peacefully.  I watched the reality show of dance moms for the first time the other night.  Honestly, this was quite mild for experiences we have had.  If you have a child/grandchild in a team sport, you are apt to experience this for yourself.   I am thinking this is a perfect area to begin practicing a thankful spirit.  Some of you are thinking how funny!  However, having a thankful spirit in all we do is a beautiful trade to have peace.  Then as we present our prayers and petitions to the Lord, He will receive these.  When trying times or disappointments come….God will be guarding our hearts and minds.  Our hearts may want to sink yet God is there bringing a peace that transcends all understanding.  We serve one faithful God.

Peace is a powerful tool for our daily lives.  We can have this by presenting prayers and  petitions to God with thanksgiving.

Be encouraged!
