Surrender: Safeguard Against Distractions

Surrender: Safeguard Against Distractions

“Why were you searching for me?” he asked. “Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” But they did not understand what he was saying to them. (Luke 2: 49,50 NIV)

Lost?

Twelve years later, Mary and Joseph traveled with Jesus to the Feast of the Passover. Returning back home with relatives and friends, they realized Jesus was not with them. A frantic search began. Travel back to Jerusalem, three days later he was found in the temple courts. Everyone hearing him was amazed at his understanding and questions he asked. Not quite everyone…

“Son, why have you treated us like this? Your father and I have been anxiously searching for you.” (Luke 2:48)

Distractions

Most of us would find this to be an acceptable reaction from a mother’s point of view. However, what distracted Mary’s surrender to God’s purpose? All the details she could remember: the visit from Gabriel the arch-angel, Elizabeth’s greeting, virgin birth, stable delivery, shepherd’s message, Magi gifts, Simeon’s prophecy, and all the thoughts she pondered. Why would her thoughts not automatically consider Jesus’s whereabouts?

Surrender

In actuality, the same thing happens to each one of us. God gives us messages through prayer, prophecy, visions and dreams. Nuggets of knowledge are deposited along the way as He develops us for His purpose. We lose focus as we become distracted with daily routines. For me, a hardened heart created a lack of understanding for my purpose. How about you? Where are you today? Have you been put through test after test in life? We continue to endure test like this until we come to the point of surrender. Surrender to God’s purpose for our lives. It truly is not about us. It is all about God working through us to help the world we live in.  I had a vision back in 1989. It was not until I attended the Christian Communicator’s Conference this past August did an epiphany happen. It took 24 years for clarity to come to understand the full vision.

Unique purpose

God shares with us just like He did with Mary. None of us will have the same exact path to travel. We are unique, with a blue print individualized for our intended purpose. Without you, we would have a missing link. God needs each one of us to surrender whole heartily to fulfill our purpose. Forward Friday! Let’s all be conscious not to become distracted, when we need to remember all details moving forward to our destiny.

Be encouraged!
