You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:4-16 NIV)
Are you a believer? The Bible says even satan believes. This is why evil spirits shudder under Jesus’s authority. How about are we engaged in our Christian faith? More than hearing the pastor’s sermon once a week. More than volunteering for committees church-wide. Yes, more than signing in the choir, even with practice once a week. I want to know, has scripture become real to you? Sadly, justifying sin is resounding through too many leaders for us not to study scripture for ourselves. Why? We want lights shining for Christ. The more we read, more we learn, more we know.
Let’s be honest. While sleeping a bright light shines around you, we’re startled. Consider times when our eyes had to quickly adjust to brighter lights. We blink, squint, and likely fuss for someone to turn out the light. This is not a far stretch from how people feel who live in darkness meets a shining light. Why? Light exposes what is hidden in darkness. It may be something major or could be a simple heart condition. Inside/outside of church, it does not matter, individuals become irritated with those who have chosen not to hide their lights.
Remember holding your finger up singing…this little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine. Don’t hide it under a bushel- No! I’m going to let it shine. Don’t let satan blow it out… God needs us more than ever to let our lights shine. The best way to ignore those who flinch at our lights- keep our eyes on Jesus. Attaching ourselves closer to the light, allows our lights to shine brighter. We continue to shine so that good deeds are seen and our Father is praised. No darkness can hide the light of Christ. The light flowing through us is Christ. Let’s shine bright!
