For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power, love, and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:6, 7 ESV)
Festivities
Festivities of Christmas are winding down with New Years celebrations being planned. In between these two events, little me was born. Today is my birthday! A few days before Christmas, the funniest thought came to me about my mom. She had to pray that I would not be born till after Christmas, making Christmas special for my two brothers. Her love of making Christmas special, lives on in me. Today’s scripture, Paul reminded Timothy of his mother and grandmother’s faith, in order to fan into flame the gift of God within Timothy.
A Gift
When holiday activities are over and 2017 begins, will there be January blues? I hope not, we have great news! The story of Jesus does not end at His birth. It does not end with His death…Jesus is same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Nothing changes within God’s teachings. On the other hand, the world attempts to change scripture daily, meeting their own needs. When we stay steadfast, dodging road blocks, and avoiding detours…straight paths lead to activating gifts within. A gift God places within every individual, is waiting to be fanned into flame- stirred into existence. I’ll never forget the Pastor praying for my destiny to be released. I was content sitting in the back row watching others go down for prayer. The Holy Spirit within, like tapping my shoulder:
- HS: “Don’t you have a need?”
- Me: “No,”
- HS: “Don’t you have a book to write?”
- Me:”Yes.”
- HS: “Then you have a need.”
From this day forward, doors began opening into an unknown territory for me. It’s like I’ve been holding a flashlight, trusting God with every step. If we knew our future, we have no need to trust the one who does know our future. Medians and fortune tellers are not operating under The Holy Spirit. To seek our destinies, we seek Jesus Christ through studying God’s Word, praying, worshiping, and fasting.
Within
Flames die down when gifts are neglected, before going completely out…we must stir the gift within. Societal confusion is draining. Satan’s working hard to prevent with vengeance others from experiencing God’s blessings and eternity with Him. Satan lost that chance when kicked out of Heaven. Let’s not allow satan to steal, kill, and destroy. Let’s become determined to stir the gift of God within. God gave us a spirit of love, power, and self-control(sound mind), not a spirit of fear. Do you have a need? Don’t hesitate to seek out a trusted minister and have them pray over, fanning into flame the gift of God. In the flame is the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. God’s Word is a gift within a gift.
