Fasting: A Life Principle

Fasting: A Life Principle“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the chords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6 NIV)

Life principles

Isaiah 58 is a must read chapter. I encourage you to study this chapter today. Life principles understood on fasting and keeping the Sabbath day holy lead to incredible blessings for our lives. I marvel with the fact if we would give up food  (I believe a true fast is the sacrifice of food), God moves to loose the chains of injustice, untie the chords of the yoke, set the oppressed free and break every yoke! Let’s be honest, is there any food worth more than freedom. To be free from sickness, family disputes, addictions, and every other kind of situation that hinders our productivity.

Journal thoughts on fasting

My journal dated 1-09-10. “Fasting in my experience has been a very gradual process. Maybe I have taken longer than some, yet I believe God honors every effort we make. When we fast, we take complete control over bodies. Our bodies are made up of three parts: spirit, mind, and flesh. Our flesh is the most selfish part. It is our flesh most open to the world of sin. Our minds are the process centers for every thought from the Holy Spirit and flesh. When we fast our spirit takes control over our flesh. This has been pure amazement to me, as we show God true obedience in the area of fasting. When God calls us out of our comfort zone, we must heed His call. He will give us strength and ability. The only way we can be successful with a total surrender fast is to turn our entire being over to Jesus. He is our source. It is a tough journey, He makes easy. Thank you, Jesus for your amazing grace given when you stretch us out of our comfort zone closer to you. You are a mighty faithful God!”

Yes, you can!

If you have never tried fasting, I encourage you to pray. Consider a morning fast til 11am. This would mean to drink only water from the time you wake up until 11am. During this time span, spend a designated time in prayer. This will be a great way to start. Daniel’s fast is a great fast as well. We would focus on fruits and vegetables. You can do this! Yes, You Can!

Be encouraged!
