Renew Our Mind: God’s Perfect Will

Renewed Mind: God's Perfect WillDo not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2 NIV)

Basic 101

Basic 101. We are off running. We can hardly contain the excitement. Jesus is our personal Savior. Peace that surpasses all understanding becomes tangible. Our first steps back into the world are met with resistance. How is this handled? I am reminded in Mark 4 the Parable of the Sower. Birds in the air will try to steal your seed. The seed of faith planted within us during our initial salvation experience. Other seeds encountered thorns, as the thorns grew, plants were choked. Once we leave church or study Bible, we learn to guard ourselves from situations or people who attempt to steal our new found knowledge.

Romans 12

I encourage you to read Romans 12. Basic 101 key points.

  • Our bodies are living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.
  • Do not think of ourselves more highly than we are.
  • We are to think of ourselves with sober judgement.
  • We all have different gifts, according to God’s grace given to us.
  • Love must be sincere.
  • Hate what is evil, cling to what is good.

We succeed with each key point by renewing our mind. We change our mind often. Do I have pizza or a salad? We may want pizza, yet we will choose salad because it is healthier. Do I choose a path to death or a path to righteousness? We weigh between options constant. Options are good. We must renew our minds to choose the God-pleasing option. This takes practice. Remember...practice makes permanent.

Renewed minds

Once we develop ease with renewing our mind, we step out to test and approve God’s will. Trust me, time is spent in perfecting this skill. God will never give us more than we can handle. We often think this refers to bad things. However, this can also mean good things. He takes us step by step. The scripture says, when we are faithful in little, we can be faithful with much. As we practice all key points, we begin to reach an understanding of God’s will for our lives. I promise you-God’s good, pleasing, and perfect will is worth every step. We start with renewing our mind. It’s Forward Friday! Let’s move forward this weekend with courage and steadfastness.

Be encouraged!
