Struggles: Satan’s Attempt to Shut Down

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore… (Ephesians 6:12 NIV)

Stunned

The death of Robin Williams has stunned our nation. One photo alone gives reason to identify his true demon, the devil. The photo showed Robin Williams, a strong supporter of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. All good this man was doing, the enemy wanted to shut down. The Bible informs the devil prowls like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Struggles included satan disguised as depression and alcoholism.

Struggles

Struggles impact all our lives. From addictions to interpersonal skills. How we relate to people. How we relate to people certainly could lead to an addiction. I joke saying…if I took one sip of wine, I would become an alcoholic. However, this is no joke. How many first time innocent sips lead to lifetime struggles? First time peek at pornography? First time bite into McDonald chocolate chip cookies? Whatever struggles you face, we have to identify the true enemy. Satan is constantly looking to see who he can devour.

Sizing up

Sizing up struggles, eyes are taken off situation and peer behind how satan turns this against us. His goal is to destroy our character, testimony, ministry, relationships, finances…anything to cause division from ultimately Christ. His grand plan includes taking our struggle to keep others from knowing Christ. When eyes are on struggles, road blocks appear. However, if we acknowledge- some need to stop denying struggles, through prayer and help from the man who can– we overcome. As Jesus taught, we must deny ourselves taking up His cross daily. We die to self during salvation to become new in Christ. We become new by learning God’s commands, reading Proverbs for wisdom, growing in wisdom and knowledge building faith along the way.

Conquer

What happens when a traffic light turns green? We go! What happens if light turns green and we stay parked? We keep doing the same thing, getting the same results. If we desire to conquer struggles, God is willing to help. He tells us to suit up- put on the full armor of God. Then when evil comes, we’re able to stand our ground. Are you ready to stand? Let’s Read Ephesians chapter 6 and understand the impact spiritual warfare has on our lives.
