In my distress I called upon the Lord; to my God I cried for help. From his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. (Psalm 18:6 ESV)
Know anyone in distress? Might be ourselves or the next person crossing paths. Being in distress does not take much to knock peace off kilter. Life can throw a curve ball and land us into distress. So…what do we do? Look for a helpful source.
Sources may be many and they can be expensive…if not financial, habits that lead to addictions come at a great cost to self, family, and career. When our children were small, a friend would always ask me, “How do you do this without drinking?” The battle I have with sweets, I can only imagine where a glass of wine would land me. I’ve had a song running through my head all yesterday…I called and you answered, you came to my rescue and now..I want to be where you are.
A simple call to Jesus- call out His name…He will answer. My strength comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth. Stepping beyond our beginning A, B, C’s, we arrive at the three R’s. To excel academically, we need to grasp reading, ‘riting, and ‘rithmetic. To excel in this life reducing stressful situations, apply three spiritual R’s.
I remind myself to take a deep breath:
Recall scripture that pertains to current situation. Do not know any scripture? It’s not too late…simply step out in faith and begin studying scripture. Ask God to help you understand. As you pray, evaluate church situation. Are you in a church where scripture stands infallible and being taught through wonderful Bible studies? A shout out to Grace Church of Chapel Hill, NC. They have recently completed a Transformation series- powerful. This has to be one of the best series I have ever heard. Please take time to listen to each sermon, tap link for their website.
The Word of God is life. The abundant life is ours, if we are willing to accept spiritual A, B, C’s and remove stress by three spiritual R’s. Our voices reach God’s ears…He is ready to help. Will we let Him?
