Measuring Physical and Spiritual Health

Measuring Physical and Spiritual HealthFinally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. (1 Thessalonians 4:1 NIV)

Attitudes

One of my Christmas presents was a Fitbit, a wireless device to wear like a watch. Unsure what all it measures, I began considering maybe I should have asked for something different. The information measured- may not be to my liking. Truth may hurt. However, getting our physical bodies in shape increases overall attitudes towards life. In a time where deception is soothing Christians asleep, leaving others with no hope…we need awakened.

Measuring

A device measuring Spiritual health would be amazing. Just like a Fitbit measures physical health. Similarities measured like steps taken, distance we’ve walked, heart rate, and a few more correspond with Spiritual. A Spiritual device could measure steps forward, distance we’ve progressed, and…heart condition. Maybe it could be temperament activated. If responding more like the world than Christ, it could glare red- Warning!

A Secret…

Here’s the inside secret…we do have a measuring device, a person actually- The Holy Spirit. Quieting chaos around, learning conviction’s nudge, and leaning in to hear the Spirit of Truth. He is also a counselor and teacher. When I think about this…an amazing gift given to each believer!

Willing?

The Holy Spirit is available to every individual. And…we have the ability to respond. It’s not just for spiritual elites. It takes a willing heart and mind. That’s right- you may not be willing, yet, give this a try…see what I’m talking about to be true. We start out taking small steps, small acts of obedience, yielding to new direction.

Commitment

Fresh commitments/renewed commitments all produce new identities. No longer walking the world’s talk. Larger part of our lives we give to God, smaller part the world takes. God gives and the world takes. This tug of war on hearts slowly dissolves away- and sometimes friendships and family slip away. Not everyone will celebrate your new look or like responding to your new heart. Sadly, church circles can be as rude. The world lacks knowledge, wisdom, and understanding. Christians need to get this right.

Moving Forward!

Forward Friday! Moving forward learning to detect warning signals from the Holy Spirit to getting in spiritual shape. It’s health for our souls, church, society, and eternity. Eternity is a long time to consider, we want no one left behind. Let’s get moving!

Be encouraged!
