Play on Words…Twisting/Slanting Truth

Play on Words...Twisting/Slanting TruthAnd do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. (Romans 13:11 NIV)

Slanted Thinking

Last week my middle child explained when he says, “It’s good,” this means not interested. A real play on words that will not be accepted in our home. If something is good- it’s good. We are not going to allow words with twisted meaning. Where is this slanted thinking coming from? My friend, everywhere we turn.

Play on Words

Where did I least expect to find such a play on words? While sitting stunned during a sermon yesterday. Did you know there is a teaching denouncing salvation prayers? Yet, this sermon did not stop there…the Roman Road is not necessary. Scripture is not necessary. And the process called a “Muddy Mess.” Here’s a look at what would be dismissed.

Salvation Prayer:

Accept– Accept Jesus Christ as Savior. Jesus said to him(Thomas), “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 ESV)

Believe- Believe in the Resurrection of Christ. By this gospel you are saved, if you hold firmly to the word I(Paul) have preached to you. Otherwise you have believed in vain. For what I received I passed on to you as of first importances: that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he first appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. (1 Corinthians 15:2- 5 NIV)

Confess- Confess that Jesus is Lord of our lives. That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9 NIV)

Roman Road:

John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 10:13 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord, will be saved.”

Missing?

With a play on words, the sermon stated, John 3:16 is only necessary- God loves, He gives, We believe, We receive. The only problem with this…look what’s missing. The purpose of why we need to believe- we are all sinners in need of a Savior. A savior willing to die for us, while we were still sinning. We need forgiveness. As we mature, Jesus says go and sin no more. Repentance is not a dirty word- It’s an action that releases true freedom.

Be Motivated

A bible, full of beautiful truths, guiding us closer to a loving King. It’s Motivating Monday! Let’s be motivated to add fuel to our souls- this is gaining more Word knowledge, to discern when there is a play on words, twisting truths or dismissing. It’s easy to slip into slumbering, accepting world’s push on Christianity. Be alert! The devil is constantly luring…

Be encouraged!
