Contaminates: Remove and Perfect Holiness

Contaminates: Remove and Perfect HolinessSince we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God. (2 Corinthians 7:1 NIV)

Worthy

Lord, You are worthy, to receive all glory and honor. May we remove contaminates from body and spirit, desiring holiness. Perfecting holiness is a tall order in today’s world. The concept of holiness is void in society at large, even made fun of from various groups. However, holiness is God’s desire for every individual.

Contaminates

Consider what needs purified that contaminates. Two key contaminates in my life have been people and sweets. Face it- some people are poison. Their motives are impure and do more to harm you than help. Opposite of poison is sweets. Too many sweets are unhealthy- weight gain is not our friend. Today marks four days without my favorite sweet- a chocolate pastry. I tried to ignore The Holy Spirit’s prodding. This became a seed for desiring more sugar throughout the day. I don’t consume alcohol or smoke- I want to scream, “Why can’t I have a chocolate pastry?” Sadly, this contaminates my body.

Changing Habits

My family has been playing this game- “Is it worth it?” Is that particular food item worth calories and effect it has on our bodies? Changing unhealthy habits takes diligence. How serious are we going to be removing contaminates? How serious honoring God with perfecting holiness?

Free

Paul states in Romans 6:22- But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. A slave to God is a good thing- His promises are real. Perfecting holiness leads to eternal life for us and reverence for God. A win- win!
