Cynical Attitudes…We Can Overcome!

Cynical Attitudes...We Can Overcome!I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33 ESV)

Overcoming

My thoughts have been towards cynical people today. This does not quite seem to equate with Thanksgiving Day, yet, in a way it does. Families and friends are coming together with an array of personalities. Every day individuals hand out cynical attitudes. May today’s blog offer a way out of cynicism, accepting peace as an option.

Cynical

I asked my husband, “Why do you think people are cynical?” I agree with his response, they’ve been hurt. In this world there will be tribulation, people hurt people. Imagine people made of different shapes. When David and I first married, I moved into a community not my own. I did not fit, like a round peg in a square hole. Throughout the years, there is a distinct arrogance that bothers me like nails scratching a chalk-board. I personally do not believe any person is better than the other. We’re all equal in God’s eyes- He sees straight into the heart.

Align

If you or someone you know is cynical, stop letting other people affect your own attitude. This was a tough lesson for me. I kept thinking…24 years old, graduate of college, and in all my 24 years…never had such negative feelings erupt in me. As a way God sent me through refining fires, for close to 11 years- one character test after another. With every failure, test intensified. Chiseling my soul, removing impurities, as heat removed imperfections. I want everything in my life to align with God’s Word. If any cynical attitudes resurface, we have to be aware, quickly not allowing situation to steal our joy.

Peace

As we accept God’s peace, we are equipped to focus on people’s hearts and not their actions. This verse became a powerful tool to help me. If Jesus can overcome the world, so can I! And…so can you! May you have a wonderful, Thanksgiving Day!

Be encouraged!
