Disciples: Hold True To Jesus’ Teachings

Holding to Jesus' teachings, is an assurance, we really are His disciples. Following His commands, we become Jesus' friend. To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31, 32 NIV)

Motivating Monday!

Hope all had a blessed Thanksgiving holiday and thrilled for today, Monday. You may be wondering what is special about today? It’s a new start to the week and Christmas songs are now official. Count it a blessing not a college football coach right now, gracious the ultimate championship unmet and several losing their job. Standards- high expectancy, if these are acceptable in college football…why not in our spiritual life? John 8 is not for the light hearted. It is truth about truth. If we hold to Jesus’ teaching, we are really His disciples. We will know the truth, truth will set us free.

Truth

Why is truth rejected? It’s an answer to prayer- freedom from whatever has a person bound. A comment made last week in a Bible study I attend, was one to fuel thinking: revelation from one person should not be pushed on others and only can a person be discipled by a person they are willing to be discipled. I’m not saying these are exact words, yet clear understanding. My response to the revelation comment was it’s part discipling others, leading to the disciple comment. I agree, a person cannot be discipled unless they are willing. What happens…there is a clear difference of believers who want to be discipled and those who do not…thinking all they have to do is believe. James 2 informs us- even demons believe in God and they shudder! Yet, we have churches full of believers that are slaves to sin, justified from their own ideology. Jesus teaches in John 8- slaves to sin are not His children, they are under satan’s authority.

Disciples

Holding to Jesus’ teachings, is an assurance, we really are His disciples. Following His commands, we become Jesus’ friend. When reaching friend status- we are hungering and thirsting after God’s righteousness, praying and fasting for God’s will. Our minds are transformed, hearts are conformed all to grow in holiness- like Jesus wants His disciples to do.  There can be lots of people, doing lots of good- yet, if not holding to Jesus’ teaching, we are not His disciples. This is serious. I do not want anyone deceived, living eternal life in hell- when thinking a belief in God will be enough. Take time today- ask Jesus to help with understanding scripture, sit down and study John, Chapter 8.

A Gift

John 1:1…In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Jesus is the Word, He was with God in the beginning. The more we seek God, more we find…more of God revealed- understanding, knowledge, wisdom. I’m very cautious who speaks spiritual over me and who I learn from, we all need to be- never let anyone talk you out of what you know in God’s Word is true. Yet, pray for a mature mentor, being discipled into Christian maturity is a gift to so much more.

Be encouraged!
