Discipline: Character Development 101

Discipline: Character Development 101“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” (Hebrews 12:5b,6 ESV)

Discipline

The sweetness experienced setting aside time to worship Jesus in quiet spaces. Listening to the power of God’s love to how deep the Father’s love for us, God’s love warms any cold heart. With His love, discipline is as any loving father will do. I certainly had my share and never understood, “If you don’t stop crying, I’ll give you more to cry about.” As a child, I questioned this statement. As a child of Christ, we have our share of questions.

Character

It’s hard to understand being disciplined by God. Who really becomes excited about character development 101; especially when individual ideologies are concreted in minds as truth? However, through discipline we’re refined as precious silver. All dross is removed through fire, removing non-plesant perks to our personality. It is our personalty God refines drawing out strengths. It seems more I resisted God, intensity of situations increased. The measuring stick always seemed to strike goodness by avoiding drugs and alcohol. Avoiding both is a good thing- yet, so much more within to refine on road to holiness.

Prepared

Being faithful in little, allows trust for greater. Two years prior to our boys’ life-threatening ATV accident, my husband studied repeatedly Kenneth Copeland’s study on Fear. As God lined up all individuals/rescue workers, David demanded the devil to flee. Once David took authority removing demonic powers, resistance to God’s power was removed. I believe key for our miracle. The steadfast prayers formed an amazing army. When our second son’s life was failing for a second time in the helicopter- God stirred my heart to recall studying Genesis, He breathed new life into Adam and Eve. I believe it was at that very moment, God breathed new life into our child. Every movement- every individual fulfilled God’s purpose in this life experience. To me- I feel it was a test we all passed by being prepared, understanding Biblical principles.

Next move…

When we’re ready to throw arms up and quit- know this is time when feet need to be grounded and ready for next move. God’s discipline shapes individuals to be ready to respond. Be it standing firm in God’s Truth when the world (and a growing number of Christians) slumbers accepting false truths or shouting victory when our armor has stood the test.

Wednesday Warriors! Let’s not grow weary friends- we’re moving to the front lines.

Be encouraged!
