“So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” (1 Kings 3:9 NIV)
Opportunity
Forward Friday! Many times in The Bible we read when God was pleased with individuals and times when not. Solomon is one that pleased God. In a dream, God appeared asking Solomon to ask for anything he wanted. How was Solomon granted this opportunity?
- He showed love for God by following statutes set by King David, his father.
- Acknowledged David’s faithfulness, righteousness, and upright heart.
- Showed humility- he did not know how to do job- his God-given purpose.
- Asked for a discerning heart.
- Asked to distinguish between right and wrong.
God Answered…
God was pleased Solomon had not asked for long life, wealth for self, or death of enemies. God granted a wise and discerning heart, unlike any other. He even gave what was not asked- both riches and honor, including long life if he continued to walk in God’s ways, obey God’s statutes and commands.
Distinguish
Dear friends, seeing difference in how we pray, makes a difference how God responds. I see need for myself to look deeper within- establishing need to know how to carry out my God given purpose. God has been faithful, yet, I do not want to stop here. It’s easy to pray wrath on enemies- desire long life, and need for wealth. God wants more from us…imagine if every proclaiming Christian prayed to distinguish right from wrong. Wow! Churches would become engulfed with God’s anointing. Problem, most churches prefer not to discuss what is wrong nor stand for what is right. As the world confuses right for wrong and wrong for right, societal confusion rules. We need to distinguish between right and wrong.
Moving Forward!
Are you ready to move forward? Let’s take time to reflect our prayers. Dig deeper under surface and search for areas needing help to make us successful serving God, fulfilling our God-given purpose. Distinguishing between right and wrong is one major step forward. If we’ll work on this…God will go above and beyond answering our prayer.
Be encouraged!
