Tough Skin, Reactions- Giving God Glory

Tough Skin, Reactions- Giving God Glory“…that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5: 45 NIV)

Monday!

Motivating Monday! A good word for enduring trials- noting this includes everyone. As rain continues to pour on Houston areas, the verse it rains on the righteous and unrighteous came to mind. We have been traveling to Houston/Galveston areas over the last year and half. I have always felt God’s sweet Spirit with every interaction. When stopping at convenient stores, individuals in the airport, friends and parents of my son met through A&M, I have been amazed by all. As when any trial hits- the question is why?

Love

Matthew five provides important insight as to why Jesus requested we pray for enemies. He says, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” The reason being- even the world will do good for those who do good to them. It’s easy to love people who love you. However, when we- God’s people, step up and love those who do us wrong- we are bringing glory back to God. When natural disasters hit and entire communities are flooding, there’s a difference in God’s people responding, returning glory back to God. Testimonies of people helping, praise given to God above.

Reactions

The difference is in our reactions. For example, breakfast in College Station college station yesterday- raining hard, lots of people, and the staff at the local Ihop maxed out. Our sweet server set our drink order down, with extra water and told us to drink till we got tired- that she’d been yelled at all morning. Bless her, we all laughed. The table in front of us- family of six waited patiently, all seeming happy- engaged in conversations. The table behind us, one grumpy momma, making snide remarks. What impressed me most was this server, an older lady who kept buzzing like a bee, smiling as she dodged bullets.

Tough Skin

I believe ‘tough skin’ is gained more we mature in Christ. Tougher our skin, easier to repel bullets when a target. Trust me, we’re likely a target more than we know. I had to back up and apologize myself yesterday, I call evil for evil- when someone purposely targets my child, I need tougher skin. Years of targeting in one situation, God has proved faithful. I share this because it’s easy to gravitate back to lower levels. With tougher skin, we elevate ourselves higher in Christ- not self righteous, more mature and not engaging in trivial matters, Christ-like.

Prayers

When trials hit and God is trusted through processes, we want all glory to be given to Jesus. It is His power and strength, not actual tough skin- we gain understanding to be at peace and let God work all things out. Pray and let God handle, the trade off is worth every effort. Romans 8:28. Prayers for all in Houston area and Texas coastal region.

Be encouraged!
