Double Portion: Relationships, Purpose, Step’s Forward

Double Portion: Relationships, Purpose, Step's ForwardWhen they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?” “Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. (2 Kings 2:9 NIV)

Motivating Monday!

“Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied. The relationship between Elijah and Elisha came from God giving Elijah an attendant. Elisha became mentored by Elijah. God made a major connection between these two men, Elisha’s purpose- take over as prophet one day. Who in our lives- a double portion of their spirit would be desired?

Double Portion

Interesting, a double portion, identifying the person’s character and God’s gifting within, having been used in amazing ways. I would not pick a gifted singer, vocals are not my gifting. More than gifting, God’s Spirit poured out on specific individuals, ministries ignited, because God trusted them with such a task. This is who I want a double portion of their spirit. The first miracle Elisha performed after receiving a double portion of Elijah’s, healed Jericho’s water supply- never again to cause death or have unproductive land. Elisha proved true.

Relationships

We often miss relationships God purposed for more. As others are for a season only. For me, when destiny was released, I had a dream team around me. Little did I know…short lived afterwards. It’s been a bit of a struggle, hard to believe five years have passed. Why would all these individuals scatter…all brought together for a time. What is your life’s purpose? Any Holy Spirit nudges a certain direction? Writing, a complete surprise to me- and I assure you to my Bible Study leader at the time. As I kept trusting God, my leaders prayed over areas I did not realize were needed. I am grateful.

All God!

Mt. Herman’s Christian Writer’s Conference will begin this week, my heart melts with memories of my first time attending. I knew nothing, except here I was, just three days prior the idea came to me. Liz Curtis Higgs had been to our church’s tea party a month earlier, she posted her excitement preparing to speak at this conference. I thought…this must be close to Louisville, Ky. No- it’s located in Northern CA. I later learned this was the grandaddy of all Christian Writer’s Conferences.

Taking Steps

When surrendered, destiny released- I assure you, God’s path reveals His best. We were able to register, two free airline tickets from my husbands previous travel, childcare available, and we were off to CA. This was God and when my tears came the next morning, overwhelmed, He assured me, “Embrace this Vicki, this is what I have for you.” What was I to do? My make-up had been stolen during air travel, David was fast making friends. I braved a smile and took steps forward. Keeping my eyes on Jesus, trusting Him, as I still walk in the unknown, with all God has prepared for me. I’m confident, He finishes what He starts in each of us. Time to reengage my will-power. How about you? Are you seeking? God’s purpose is unique and His Word is true for every individual, we only need to seek, Jesus. He promises those who seek, will find.

A double portion of (their) Spirit- can we be trusted? Elisha proved trustworthy. What’s your story? Please share.
