Understanding: Full Riches, Treasure Found

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine sounding arguments. (Colossians 2:2-4 NIV)

Justified?  

I could have written this very same letter, however, Paul had great concern for Laodicea, as I do…America. The town of Colosse was located on a major trade route, receiving from Eastern Oriental traders. With this brought in cult like thinking. New various forms of the gospel were offered to new Christians. Sounds similar to our society today. During the 70’s and 80’s mass exodus from family values, leaving childhood churches. During the 90’s in attempt to reach these individuals watered down sermons began and eventually enough truth sprinkled in completely hijacked solid foundational churches. When pastors are preaching pure Truth, a percentage of people become offended and leave. These individuals who reject God’s Word on tough topics, have justified somehow, being deceived.

Understanding

The idea of mystery came from the Oriental traders’ mysterious religious practices. Paul clarifies this quickly in his letter- the only mystery of God is Christ. In Christ are hidden treasures of wisdom and knowledge. This is what I want for each of us more than anything to grow in God’s wisdom and knowledge; producing understanding. We need this more than ever in such a deceived movement happening in our nation, producing societal confusion.

What Does God’s Word Say?

There are fine sounding arguments happening- justifying political parties unethical practices, lies to earn trust from voters, while attempting to ruin anyone in their way. How can we keep people like this elected? Anyone unable to see positive growth in our country’s economy is blinded– satan loves to throw invisible blankets over us- to provoke fear, or to keep from seeing, hearing, or understanding. We cannot allow ourselves to become indifferent or taken by these fine arguments. What does God’s Word say? That is what we have to align with and stand firm, rejecting the devil’s plan to deceive.

Sanctity of Life

How can anyone- and especially Catholics vote for a candidate with proved records against sanctity of life? If we are believers who claim to be Christians, we have to stand firm on God’s Word. Instead of being swayed by fine arguments of left thinking propaganda, let’s look for God’s hidden treasure. Wisdom and knowledge are not hard to find, when willing to seek Truth. Keep eyes on Jesus, experience personal worship and prayer, Bible reading, Bible study groups, Church…Jesus promises: “Those who seek, will find Me.”

Moving Forward!

Let’s move forward! God’s word is the only way to remove satan’s deceptive/invisible blanket. This I know well, happened when I found our home broken into and felt this blanket of fear thrown over me. It’s easy to write topics we know well, yet, I know it takes hard work to loosen satan’s grip, and staying focused in today’s world. However, knowing God’s forming His remnant- I do not want to miss out. And…full riches of understanding is simply amazing!
